Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Jonathan “Jon” Komar, MD, founded the boutique consultancy firm OptiMed Solutions in 2018 to provide clinical and business optimization solutions for private medical practices. When he’s on vacation and not working, Dr. Jon Komar likes going to the beaches of Southern California with his family.

Southern California, which extends from San Diego to Malibu, is a mecca of beaches, with a variety to suit every mood and preference. Here are three of the best beaches to visit.

Mission Bay
Ideal for water sports, this beach has been advertised as the largest water park of its kind in the world and includes a section just for waterskiing, wave running, jet skiing, and sailing. There are also paths on land perfect for skating and biking.

Carlsbad
Celebrated for its beauty, Carlsbad’s beaches are full of bluffs and rugged cliffs as well as lush green hills. The waves are perfect for surfing, swimming, and scuba diving, and the beaches are often relatively uncrowded.

Laguna Beach
This artsy destination is great for those who like active sports and those who enjoy looking at marine life. Laguna Beach is a marine-protected area with great tide pool-viewing. The seven-mile shore also offers numerous sea caves and coves for exploration.
